Encaustic work by Jules Horn

I have embarked upon an exciting new artistic adventure! I have begun experimenting with the ancient technique of encaustic art. The term ‘encaustic’ comes from the Greek meaning ‘to burn in’ and the process involves melting beeswax with tree resin and layering it onto a surface, fusing each successive layer with a heat gun or torch.
It’s a fun, although tricky process! What is fascinating me at this early stage of experimentation is the sense of having to surrender control to the whim of fluid wax. I am also enjoying working in a much more minimalist style in comparison to my acrylic paintings, and also being brave enough to incorporate my own text.
I hope you will follow me on this intriguing journey.
